Report: Astros star 2B Jose Altuve day-to-day after knee scare
It appears the Houston Astros avoided a significant setback heading into the holiday weekend.
On Friday, MLB insider Jon Morosi tweeted that Houston second baseman Jose Altuve is considered day-to-day after the 2017 American League Most Valuable Player tweaked his right knee while sliding into third base in the first inning of Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers.
The 30-year-old tried to tough it out but was removed from the outing by manager Dusty Baker in the top of the third.
Altuve underwent surgery in the fall of 2018 to repair a right kneecap avulsion fracture, and there were immediate concerns that he may have seriously aggravated a previous injury. It seems that an MRI showed nothing overly concerning, but the Astros nevertheless could give him a few days off to further examine the issue.
Altuve is batting .224 with three home runs, 12 RBI, five doubles and a .606 OPS across 35 appearances.
