Report: Carlos Correa was dressed and ready for Giants press conference that never happened

According to Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated, Carlos Correa was dressed and ready for his introductory press conference with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. It never ended up happening.

It was reported on Tuesday that Correa's introduction to the organization — scheduled for 11 a.m. PT — was postponed due to a medical concern with his physical. Correa opted out of his three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Minnesota Twins in November and agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal with the Giants last week, subject to a physical.

In the early morning hours on Wednesday, news broke that the two-time All-Star's deal with San Francisco fell through, and he instead joined the New York Mets on a 12-year, $315 million contract. The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported Wednesday that the Giants "saw something concerning" with Correa's medicals, leading to the failed deal.

Verducci wrote Wednesday that Correa — who is expected to play third base with the Mets — arrived in the Bay Area on Monday in anticipation of Tuesday's presser. After it was clear that Correa to the Giants was a no-go, the former AL Rookie of the Year's agent, Scott Boras, got busy.

"(Boras said) he spent 'four or five hours' negotiating with (Mets owner) Cohen, who was enjoying dinner and a martini in Hawai’i. Boras asked Cohen, 'Do you have three olives for a third baseman?'" Verducci wrote. "The two of them briefly had discussed Correa just before Correa reached agreement with the Giants, though Boras says they did not exchange terms then. This time they agreed on a 12-year, $315 million deal. It was 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in New York when they closed the deal."

Now that Correa is headed to Queens, Mets fans will welcome another potent bat to an already solid lineup. The 28-year-old finished the 2022 campaign 22 home runs, 64 RBI and a .291/.366/.467 slash line over 522 at-bats covering 136 games.
