Report: Red Sox, Garrett Richards agree to one-year, $10 million deal

The Boston Red Sox did more than add infielder Enrique Hernandez this week. It appears they have added to their rotation as well.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Red Sox and Garrett Richards have agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal.

Richards has a long history of arm injuries. He had Tommy John surgery after making 16 starts for the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. He then signed with the San Diego Padres for the 2019 campaign, but was sidelined while rehabbing.

The 32-year-old finally returned to the mound during the pandemic-shortened season, going 2-2 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.247 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. He was moved to the bullpen late in the season and for the playoffs.

Richards spent eight seasons with the Angels before signing with the Padres. In 10 total seasons, the right-hander is 47-41 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.255 WHIP.

Richards will likely help fill out a rotation that includes Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi and Nick Pivetta.
