Report: Red Sox have had 'serious' trade talks regarding Andrew Benintendi

The Boston Red Sox are looking to upgrade their pitching depth. It appears the team is willing to part ways with a member of its outfield to do so.

According to Jim Bowden of CBS Sports, the Red Sox have been in "serious trade talks" with several teams regarding outfielder Andrew Benintendi. Bowden says the team is looking for pitching and outfield prospects in return.

Benintendi appeared in just 14 games for the Red Sox last season, slashing .103/.314/.128 with no home runs and one RBI.

Boston already has depth on the outfield corners in Alex Verdugo and Hunter Renfroe, making Benintendi expendable.

If the Red Sox end up keeping him, Boston will be hoping he can return to the player he once was. In 2019, the 26-year-old hit .266 with 13 home runs and 68 RBI. During the team's 2018 season, he hit .290 with 16 home runs and 87 RBI.
