Reports: Yankees left fielder Miguel Andujar requests trade

New York Yankees left fielder Miguel Andújar told manager Aaron Boone that he wishes to be traded from the team, according to reports from Héctor Gómez of Z101 Digital and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Andújar, 27, broke out in 2018, finishing second in AL Rookie of the Year voting behind the Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani after batting .297 with 27 home runs. But Andújar struggled through a shoulder injury in 2019 and hasn't been in the lineup much in the last three seasons.

Last year, he played in just 45 games and spent time on the 60-day injured list with a wrist injury.

More recently, he stepped into the Yankees' starting lineup when outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list. On Saturday morning, Stanton was activated from the injured list and returned to the starting lineup, sending Andújar back to the bench. In 12 games this year, Andújar is batting .268 with three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Andújar has played in left field in recent years, but primarily played at third base during his breakout 2018 season. In March, he signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Yankees.
