The Boston Red Sox recently got some bad news.

Veteran outfielder Rob Refsnyder is expected to miss some time after fracturing his toe and some have wondered if the club will make an addition to the roster to fill in for him.

Boston has been linked to a handful of free-agent right-handed bats but hasn't made another move.

It sounds like this is going to remain the case as the club is focusing on internal options, according to the Boston Globe's Julian McWilliams.

"The Red Sox are pretty much fixed on internal options more so than external, per source, in the wake of the Refsnyder toe fracture, which the team deems as not that significant," McWilliams said. "Names such as Tommy Pham, who had a great year last season, are unlikely."

Boston lost slugger Justin Turner earlier this offseason in free agency and speculation about the additions of another right-handed slugger has been swirling ever since.

Pham has been floated as an option for the Red Sox after a solid 2023 season with the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks. He has experience in Boston after spending 53 games with the club in 2022 but it doesn't sound like a reunion is on the horizon.

Boston has been linked to other players, as well, including Adam Duvall and Michael A. Taylor. The Red Sox could use another right-handed bat and another starting pitcher as well.

Opening Day is coming up quickly and the club is running out of time to fill the holes on the roster.
