Over the past few seasons, the front office of the Phillies has seemed to be terrible at finding the diamond in the rough. Not every player on the team can be a star and it’s about how well the role players can complement the rest of the team. Ronald Torreyes is changing that reputation.

Trading for Brad Miller for pennies in 2019, gave the Phillies one of those such players. He impressed the front office enough that the Phillies brought him back in 2021. Even though he had the first 3-homer game since Jayson Werth

This piece isn’t about him.

This is about the fun-sized firecracker that has done it all with the Phillies.

Ronald Torreyes has truly done it all, especially in the series against the Red Sox.

In the first game, he was tasked with cleanup duty as the Phillies were down big. In his major league pitching debut, he didn’t just survive. He thrived. On just 5 pitches, Ronny was able to record 3 outs on 3 major league players.

As wonderful a moment that it was in game 1, games 2 and 3 really showcased what Torreyes has been doing for the Phillies. He recorded back-to-back 3-hit games against the American League-leading Boston Red Sox. For ridiculous comparison sake, Shohei Ohtani only had 4 hits in his last series against the Sox and allowed 2 ER! Eat your heart out second coming of Babe Ruth.

Torreyes’ pièce de résistance came with 2 outs and a full count against former Phillie Nick Pivetta.

After his romp in Boston, Torreyes is hitting .276 with the highest OPS of his career (.710). He has already tied his career-high 3 home runs in less than half the games of when he did it in 2017 (42 vs 108).

Most importantly, he’s been a fun addition to the clubhouse.

If the Phillies do somehow make it to the postseason, it will be because of solid players like Ronald Torreyes.
