Several MLB games postponed to protest Jacob Blake shooting

Multiple MLB games have been postponed in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake, making it the second straight day that baseball teams have refused to take the field in response to police brutality and systemic racism.

The game between the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics has officially been postponed, and the Phillies game against the Washington Nationals will not be played as well. According to Phillies insider Jim Salisbury, "the Phillies' decision not to play tonight was made by players and not in concert with the Nationals players." It's not clear if that would be considered a forfeit by the league or if the game would simply be postponed.

Additionally, Jeff Passan reports that "Boston Red Sox players have strongly considered not playing tonight's game against the Toronto Blue Jays to protest against social injustice." Both teams are apparently in contact with each other and have offered support to each other for whatever decision is made.

Blake, who is black, was shot seven times in front of his family by Kenosha police officers over the weekend. Police were responding to a domestic disturbance call when the shooting took place. Across all American sports leagues, players are standing up against the shooting.

The NBA had to postpone two days of playoff games as players refused to take the court and held several all-players' meetings to discuss the possibility of the postseason being canceled. Several NFL teams have canceled practices, including the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets.
