SP Kutter Crawford makes impressive Red Sox history

In the 100-plus-year history of the Boston Red Sox, no pitcher has accomplished what Kutter Crawford's done during his first four starts of the 2024 season.

The streak of gems goes back to Crawford's final 2023 outing, too, when the right-hander logged six shutout innings while allowing just one hit with no walks and seven strikeouts in the team's penultimate game of the season.

The 28-year-old's performance on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians also continued what has been a stellar beginning of the campaign for Boston starters.

Remarkably, Crawford's effort against the Guardians was also his fifth consecutive no-decision.

The 2017 draft pick's scoreless outing against the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 30 ended in a 5-2 Red Sox loss.

Crawford's first start of 2024 came on March 30 vs. the Seattle Mariners, and despite six more scoreless frames, the M's won the contest 4-3 in 10 innings.

Boston finally won a Crawford start on April 5 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but he only lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. The Red Sox also didn't take the lead for good until the top of the eighth inning.

On April 10 vs. the Orioles, the hurler went five shutout innings with two hits and four walks allowed against six strikeouts, but Boston's bullpen blew a five-run cushion in a 7-5 defeat.

The Red Sox and Guardians were both held off the scoreboard through six innings on Monday, saddling Crawford with yet another no-decision. Cleveland ended up with two runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings for a 6-0 road victory.

Crawford will stunningly take a 0-0 record and 0.42 ERA into his fifth start of the season.
