“The Simpsons” will pay tribute to perhaps its most celebrated episode — at least among its myriad sports-themed entries — with an hour-long “comedic” documentary about “Homer at the Bat.”

“Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson,” set to air Sunday on FOX, is a parody of Ken Burns’ iconic “Baseball” miniseries and touts renowned documentarian Morgan Spurlock as its director, per an EW.com report.

The special “will pay tribute to the episode while offering up interviews from eight of the baseball stars who appeared as ringers in the episode, as well as Yankees All-Star Aaron Judge, Nick Offerman, Russell Brand, George Will, Tim Gunn, and Dr. Oz, not to mention sportscasters Bob Costas, Joe Buck, Bob Uecker, and Charissa Thompson. In addition, the documentary includes ‘interviews’ with Homer, Moe, Chief Wiggum, Apu, and Comic Book Guy.”

The iconic episode is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and already has been canonized in Cooperstown for its pop culture contributions to Major League Baseball in May, when Homer was “inducted” into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Originally aired on Feb. 20, 1992, “Homer at the Bat” featured cameo voice appearances by Ken Griffey Jr., Wade Boggs, Ozzie Smith, Don Mattingly, Roger Clemens, Darryl Strawberry, Jose Canseco and Steve Sax.

“Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson” will premiere Sunday on FOX.
