Three pitchers who were unhittable in August

The playoffs are almost here and real contenders are starting to separate themselves from pretenders. While some teams have been powered by their offenses, others have relied on pitching.

Here are the pitchers that breezed through the month of August.

Charlie Morton, pitcher, Atlanta Braves: 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA including 37 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched in the month of August, Braves pitcher Charlie Morton is proving to still be a workhorse at age 39.

Adding another great season to his resume, he is currently 14-10 with a 3.29 ERA and 165 strikeouts in 147.2 innings. With a bounce-back season after a mediocre 2022, Morton will look to continue his success into the postseason as he aims for World Series title number three.

Freddy Peralta, pitcher, Milwaukee BrewersComing into the month, Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta was in the middle of a disappointing 2023 campaign and scrambling for answers.

After going 5-0 with a 2.10 ERA in August, including a National League-leading 46 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched, it's safe to say he figured things out. It couldn't have happened at a better time.

With the Brewers being one of the hottest teams in baseball, Peralta's turnaround has been a big part of the success. With the pitching staff fully healthy for the first time in 2023, they will look to finish the season strong.

Sonny Gray, pitcher, Minnesota Twins With an outstanding month of August, Twins pitcher Sonny Gray turned a great season into a Cy Young-worthy one.

3-2 on the month, he had a 2.04 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 39.2 innings pitched during the month and will look to continue his dominance since becoming a member of the Twins in 2022.

After his strong month, Gray is 7-6 with an American League-leading 2.92 ERA over 157 innings pitched and has played a major part in the Twins keeping their AL Central division lead over the Cleveland Guardians.
