Tommy Edman has emerged into a quality Major League player over the first few seasons of his career.

Edman first came up to the big leagues in 2019 and instantly became a favorite among St. Louis Cardinals fans.

In his rookie season, he hit for a team-high .304 batting average and helped carry the Cardinals to the NLCS.

But he’s also emerged as a quality defensive player over the years.

Edman was one of five Cardinals to win a Gold Glove last season and is a finalist for one this year as well.

But he’ll also be taking home a special honor for the first time.

Edman was given the Fielding Bible Award for utility players.

Edman ranked third in Defensive Runs Saved at second base and was among the leaders in fewest misplays on per-inning basis at second base and shortstop, where he split much of his time this season.

Edman Earns Special Honor

When Kolten Wong left for the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cardinals had a solid in-house candidate to replace him.

The replacement in question was Edman himself.

Wong had won two Gold Gloves with St. Louis, but Edman claimed the award for second basemen in 2021.

Now, not only is he a finalist for a second straight Gold Glove, but he has also earned his first career Fielding Bible Award.

Edman has been a Swiss Army knife of sorts for the Cardinals since he arrived in 2019, being able to play multiple positions on the diamond.

He is not only a Gold Glove finalist at second base, but for utility players as well along with his teammate in Brendan Donovan.
