Giants tight end announces decision on NFL future
Darren Waller Michael Karas / USA TODAY NETWORK

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller has finally decided on his NFL future.

Waller has informed the Giants that he plans to retire, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Giants had been prepared for this outcome, as Waller had been considering his future in recent months.

Waller said in April that he was considering retirement, citing his lack of confidence in being willing or able to give his full effort to football.

The 31-year-old Waller was a headline addition to the Giants in 2023, but was slowed by injuries during his lone season with the organization. He caught 52 passes for 552 yards and one touchdown in 12 games for New York.

The Giants had been preparing for this eventuality. Waller’s decision will save them $11.9 million against the cap in 2024 and likely sets up third-year tight end Daniel Bellinger for a much larger role.
