Twins postpone game against Red Sox 'out of respect' after Daunte Wright shooting

The Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox will no longer meet on Monday afternoon at Target Field.

The series opener between Minnesota and Boston has been postponed "out of respect for the tragic events that occurred [Sunday] in Brooklyn Center," the Twins said in a statement.

The decision was made amid protests and violence after a police officer shot and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright, a Black man, in a Minneapolis suburb on Sunday. Tensions in the area have also been high as the murder trial for Derek Chauvin continues.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. Officials said Monday that the officer meant to deploy her taser but instead accidentally fired her gun.

The Timberwolves and Wild are also scheduled to play at home on Monday. It's unclear if those games will be postponed.
