Home plate umpire Jim Wolf called out Carlos Correa on strikes in the bottom of the eighth inning of Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night and badly missed the call.

Correa was batting with his Houston Astros down 4-2 against the Washington Nationals. Correa had a 2-2 count and took an inside pitch. Much to his surprise, Wolf called it a strike, even though the pitch missed the plate by several inches.

It’s a wonder how Wolf missed the call so badly, especially considering he was hovering over the inside corner, meaning the pitch was directly in front of him.

That call sat down one of Houston’s good hitters. Robinson Chirinos and Jake Marisnick followed with outs to send the game to the ninth.

The Nats had been robbed on similarly bad calls in the series, and now the Astros have been.
