Watch: Dodgers, Giants combine for 'disgraceful' play

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have played a lot of classic games and been involved in a lot of famous plays throughout their storied history.

This play from Friday night is not among them.

With Dodgers trailing by two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning and with a runner on second base, Mookie Betts hit an innocent looking pop-up on the infield that looked like it was going to be an easy second out of the inning.

That was when the madness unfolded.

That is legendary Giants play-by-play man Jon Miller on the call, accurately calling the entire thing disgraceful. And honestly, that is probably the correct word given how badly both teams messed that play up.

Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt started things off by dropping the ball, an error that compounded by pitcher Jakub Junis picking the ball up and making a futile attempt to throw out Betts at first. He completely air-mailed the ball into right field.

At that point, the Dodgers should have been in a very fortunate situation with two runners on base—both in scoring position—with Freddie Freeman coming to the plate. The tying run would have been in scoring position. The winning run would have been at the plate.

The problem for the Dodgers is that Betts did not see Michael Busch stop at third base and continued running. That created a run down that ended with Busch being tagged out at third base.

The Dodgers were given a massive gift and squandered it. They never scored a run in the inning and lost the game, 7-5, in 11 innings.
