Earlier this week, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced the 2024 National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
The Cleveland Guardians are represented by a handful of players on the ballot, including starting pitcher Bartolo Colón, who is making his Hall of Fame ballot debut.
He officially retired as a member of the New York Mets in September, after not having pitched in MLB since 2018.
Even at the age of 50, though, Colón continues to compete in professional baseball.
Last month, he was selected 16th overall in the first-ever draft for Baseball United. Baseball United is a professional baseball league in Dubai, and is the first professional baseball league in the Middle East and South Asia.
Earlier today, Colón made his Baseball United debut in the league’s All-Star Showcase, facing fellow former MLB players Robinson Canó, Alejandro De Aza, and Didi Gregorius.
Colón ultimately pitched three innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and one walk, while throwing three strikeouts in 53 pitches.
After being signed by Cleveland in 1993, he began his 21-year MLB career with the Cleveland Indians in 1997. In six seasons with the team, he went 75-45 with a 3.92 ERA, 873 strikeouts, and 1.36 WHIP in 162 appearances (160 starts). Colón was also named an American League All-Star for the Indians in 1998.
