Watch: Marlins' one-run magic continues with wild walk-off vs. Cardinals

The Miami Marlins keep finding ways to win, and their wizardry in one-run games continued Wednesday with a wild 10-9 walk-off victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Trailing the Cardinals 9-8 with one out and two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, an infield single off the bat of shortstop Joey Wendle won it for the Marlins.

Wendle tapped a slow dribbler to Cardinals' pitcher Jordan Hicks, who, with both runners moving, hesitated a moment before launching the ball over first baseman Paul Goldschmidt's head down the right field line into foul territory, allowing the tying and winning runs to score.

The Marlins victimized the Cardinals for the second time in three nights, sneaking away with another one-run win after taking Monday's contest 5-4.

Winning teams need to be good and lucky. So far, the Marlins have been both. Following Wednesday's win, the Marlins improved to remarkable 21-5 in one-run games this season. For comparison, the 2016 Texas Rangers posted a 36-11 record in one-run games, tops in the modern era.

The Marlins move to 51-37, good enough for second place in the National League East behind only the Atlanta Braves (58-28), who they trail by eight games. Miami's success this season may be a hint toward the future, especially after eclipsing the 50-win mark.

According to Baseball Reference, it's only the second time in the franchise's history that the Marlins have had this many wins at this point in a season, with the only other occurrence happening in 1997, when they won the World Series.
