The New York Mets won their third straight game Thursday in dramatic fashion with a walk-off home run from first baseman Pete Alonso.

The St. Louis Cardinals scored one run in the ninth inning to force extras and one run in the 10th to take a 6-5 lead. But Alonso belted the second pitch of the bottom of the 10th way out of the park in left field to give the Mets the 7-6 win.

The 447-foot blast from Alonso was his 10th homer of the season putting him in a tie with the Colorado Rockies' C.J. Cron for the National League lead.

New York improved to 26-14 with the win and extended its NL East lead to seven games over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies who lost 2-0 to the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the Mets announced that star pitcher Max Scherzer is expected to miss six to eight weeks with an oblique strain. Scherzer started the season 5-1 with a 2.54 ERA.
