The Chicago White Sox have hired Matt Wise as their new bullpen coach for the 2024 season, according to reports. Wise spent the last three seasons as the pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels.

Wise, 47, took over as the Angels' pitching coach on an interim basis in 2021 after Mickey Callaway was suspended and later fired. He was named the permanent pitching coach later that season.

The Angels pitching staff regressed in 2023 after showing improvement in 2022 under Wise. The Angels posted an 8th-worst 4.64 team ERA this past season compared to a 9th-best 3.77 ERA the year before.

The move reunites Wise with White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz, as the two previously worked together in the Angels' minor league system.

Wise brings over a decade of MLB coaching experience to the White Sox staff. He began his coaching career with the Angels in 2012 and worked his way up to become their minor league pitching coordinator before joining the big league staff.
