The Chicago White Sox salvaged a split with the Texas Rangers thanks to an 8-2 win in Sunday’s series finale. Lucas Giolito battled through five innings and the White Sox pounded out 15 hits after scoring just four runs in the first three games.

The White Sox got the party started early by opening the scoring in the second. AJ Pollock lined an RBI single to left with two outs to score Josh Harrison. Andrew Vaugh put the South Siders ahead 3-0 when he blasted a two-run homer 421 feet out to center field.

However, Lucas Giolito labored through the third inning of his start. He needed 36 pitches to complete the frame and allowed two hits and two walks. Only one run crossed the plate on an RBI single from Nathaniel Lowe that scored Marcus Semien. Giolito was able to induce a bases-loaded groundout by Meibrys Viloria.

Sox Pour It On

The White Sox offense erased a lot of concern by adding three more runs in the fourth inning. Luis Robert hit a two-run double to right and scored on Eloy Jimenez’s base hit.

The final two runs came via a bases-loaded walk from Yoan Moncada and Leury Garcia hustling around the bases to score on a throwing error by Ezequiel Duran in the seventh.

Rangers’ starter Spencer Howard was tagged for six runs (five earned) on eight hits with one walk. He lasted just 3.1 innings. The second Rangers run came via a solo homer from Lowe in the seventh.

Four White Sox batters recorded three-hit performances.

Tim Anderson began his two-game suspension Sunday. He will also miss the opener of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

The White Sox recalled Lenyn Sosa from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned Tanner Banks.
