The Chicago White Sox scored four runs in the 10th inning, capped by Miguel Vargas' three-run homer, to beat the host Cincinnati Reds 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Chase Meidroth singled home the go-ahead run with two outs in the 10th inning off Reds closer Emilio Pagan (0-2), before Vargas' knockout blow, his third homer of the season. Chicago won for the third time in four games.

Left-hander Cam Booser worked a perfect bottom of the 10th, including strikeouts of Matt McLain and Connor Joe to end the game.

The win went to Steven Wilson (1-0), who was looking for his first save in just his second opportunity of the season when he came on in the ninth with a 1-0 lead. The first batter he faced, Elly De La Cruz, worked a full count before clobbering a sweeper that was in the heart of the strike zone over the fence in right field, an estimated 435 feel. Wilson regrouped to get the next three batters, two on strikeouts.

De La Cruz had two hits for the Reds, who were out-hit 9-6. Edgar Quero had three hits and an RBI for the White Sox, and Vargas and Lenyn Sosa had two hits apiece.

After Brandon Eisert worked a clean bottom of the first, Jonathan Cannon threw six shutout innings for Chicago. He allowed four hits, struck out six and walked none.

Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott allowed just one run on four hits in six innings. He fanned seven and did not walk a batter. The Reds have lost eight of their last 10 games.

Chicago opened the scoring in the fourth when Vargas led off with a double and scored on Quero's single.

Graham Ashcraft relieved Abbott in the seventh, allowing Andrew Vaughn's double and Sosa's single, but he got a strikeout and induced Josh Rojas to hit into a first-to-home inning-ending double play.

Jordan Leasure replaced Cannon in the eighth, striking out McLain before allowing Connor Joe's double. Leasure walked Will Benson, but Quero threw out Joe attempting to steal third for the second out. Santiago Espinal then lined out to second baseman Rojas to end the inning.
