White Sox fans start chant calling for firing of manager Tony La Russa
Tony La Russa is only midway through his second season as the manager of the Chicago White Sox, but apparently, many fans on the South Side have had enough of the 77-year-old Hall-of-Famer.
Despite jumping out to a 5-0 lead on Saturday against the Texas Rangers, the White Sox ultimately fell 11-9 in 10 innings. Chicago is now 27-30 and sits six games behind the AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins.
With a loaded roster including Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn in the starting rotation, All-Star closer Liam Hendriks in the bullpen and a lineup featuring former MVP Jose Abreu, All-Star Tim Anderson and rising stars like Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert and Andrew Vaughn, expectations were high coming into the year for the White Sox. Lynn has been on the injured list all season, Anderson and Jimenez are currently on the IL and Giolito, Robert and Vaughn have missed time as well, hurting the cause.
Unconventional managing methods by La Russa — highlighted recently by his decision to intentionally walk Trea Turner with two strikes — have frustrated the South Siders though. Following Saturday's loss, the four-time Manager of the Year Award winner commented on the criticism he's been receiving.
