White Sox place OF Luis Robert on COVID-19-related injury list

The Chicago White Sox have already seen top-of-the-rotation hurlers Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito, as well as power-hitting outfielder Andrew Vaughn — among others — miss time with various injuries this spring. The team announced Tuesday afternoon that another core member of the lineup is now set to miss some time as the White Sox begin a three-game home series against the Boston Red Sox.

Robert was signed by the White Sox as an amateur free agent in May 2017 and made his MLB debut during the 2020 pandemic-shortened season. In 202 at-bats covering 56 games that year, Robert recorded 11 home runs, 31 RBI and nine stolen bases, while earning a Gold Glove Award and finishing as the AL Rookie of the Year runner-up.

The Cuban outfielder was off to a fast start in 2021 but suffered a right hip flexor tear in May and was limited to 275 at-bats over 68 games. Robert finished 2021 with 13 home runs, 43 RBI and 22 doubles, as well as a .338/.378/.567 slash line.

In 33 games and 137 at-bats so far this season, the 24-year-old is slashing .285/.319/.438 with six home runs, 17 RBI and six stolen bases.
