White Sox's Lance Lynn 'ahead of schedule' after knee surgery

The Chicago White Sox have been up against it this spring as it pertains to injuries and recently placed ace Lucas Giolito on the injured list with an abdominal strain.

White Sox right-handed starter Lance Lynn hasn't yet taken the bump for a meaningful game this season as he works to recover from having right knee surgery earlier this month, but the 34-year-old offered some good news ahead of Wednesday's matchup versus the Seattle Mariners when he said he was "ahead of schedule" regarding his return to the rotation.

The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) notes he's expected to miss four to six weeks of action.

"It’s moving along more quickly than our training staff would like, but right on my pace," Lynn explained, according to Alex Shapiro of NBC Sports Chicago. "There’s still a lot of other work left to do, and we have some time until I get on a mound. So everything’s good right now, we just need to make sure we stay on that pace."

Because Lynn still has stitches in, he can't do much more than play catch at this stage.

"I think the big thing is going to be mound," Lynn added. "When it comes to mound time, that’s going to tell us everything we need to know. Anything we do stress-wise on flat ground is not near what it is on a mound, so we’ll see when it comes to that time how it feels, and then after that it’s building that pitch count."

Lynn made 28 starts last season and went 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA.

The White Sox, meanwhile, were winners of three straight games and were 3-1 heading into Wednesday's contest. Chicago hosts Seattle again on Thursday afternoon.
