Yankees assistant GM Jean Afterman declined Mets' request for interview

According to multiple reports, New York Yankees assistant general manager Jean Afterman was recently approved an opportunity to interview with the New York Mets. Despite the Mets' request and the go-ahead from the Yankees, Afterman apparently has no interest in leaving her current employer.

Afterman was hired as the Yankees assistant GM in December 2001 and was previously a player agent. In 2012 she was given the title of Senior Vice President.

In 2019, Afterman was honored by "Baseball America" with the "Trailblazer Award" for her work in "opening paths in baseball front offices for women."

The Mets are looking to fill their general manager position after acting GM Zack Scott was fired on Tuesday, two months after being charged with DWI. Scott was named acting GM in January after Jared Porter was fired following an ESPN report that the former GM has sent explicit text messages to a female reporter while with the Chicago Cubs in 2016.
