The Yankees were in need of a fresh arm after Jhony Brito lasted only 2/3 of an inning against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.

Colten Brewer then tossed 3.1 innings and Ian Hamilton threw three innings before utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa worked a scoreless ninth.

With the Yankees needing a rested arm, they called up right-hander Greg Weissert from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. To make room on the roster they designated Brewer, who is out of options, for assignment.

Brewer posted a 4.32 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 8.1 innings for the Yankees since being called up on April 1. Now, the Yankees could potentially lose him on waivers due to Brito's rough outing.

As for Weissert, he was one of the Yankees' final cuts in Spring Training. Since Weissert had options, New York ultimately chose to send him down in favor of Hamilton.

In 5.1 innings for Scranton this season, Weissert has allowed just one run.

Weissert made his Yankee debut last season, in which he tossed 11.1 innings across 12 games with a 5.56 ERA, 4.17 FIP, and 0.971 WHIP.

With Weissert joining the Yankees' bullpen as a fresh arm, the club will hope that it doesn't come with the cost of losing Brewer on waivers.

The Yankees did not option Brito because they need a fifth starter, and he wouldn't be eligible to come back up to the major leagues until April 28.
