New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone made sure to get his money’s worth before getting ejected on Monday night.

With the Yankees trailing 2-1 against the Chicago White Sox in the top of the eighth inning, shortstop Anthony Volpe was called out on strikes. The pitch from Bryan Shaw just grazed the left side of the strike zone.

Boone, clearly frustrated with the strike zone all night, charged home plate umpire Laz Diaz to give him an earful. Boone then drew a line in the soil to indicate where he felt the pitch was before mimicking Diaz’s animated strikeout call. It did not take long for him to get ejected afterwards.

That is one emphatic way to make sure the umpire knows how you feel about his calls. Boone’s ejection likely ranks amongst the most memorable moments this MLB season that does not involve a knockout punch from Jose Ramirez.

Despite Boone’s attempts to lobby for a better strike zone for the Yankees, they ultimately fell 5-1 against the White Sox. In fact, all three Yankees batters in the 8th inning struck out — three of their 12 on the night.

The loss dropped the Yankees even further down in the American League playoff race. They sit 5.5 games out of the final AL wild card spot and 12.5 games out of first place in the division after Monday’s contests.
