Yankees manager Aaron Boone hopes to return this weekend after receiving pacemaker

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was in headlines on Wednesday when the club announced that he was taking a medical leave of absence to receive a pacemaker at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Fla., that same day.

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Boone told reporters on Friday that he was discharged on Thursday and would like to return to the club at some point this weekend.

In fact, the manager, who celebrates his 48th birthday this coming Tuesday, would've been with the team for Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers if not for MLB's COVID-19 protocols.

"I think I'm ready to be back in the dugout," Boone said.

He added that he reached out to a cardiologist after he felt light-headed at points during the offseason, and it was eventually determined that he was suffering from a low heart rate. He previously underwent open-heart surgery in 2009 and said on Friday that he's already improving with the pacemaker.

"You have your morning coffee, today's morning coffee really worked," he explained. "Me and my new buddy are doing quite well."

Boone accepted the Yankees job following the 2017 season and has tallied a 236-148 record over his three years in charge. He has yet to guide the Bronx Bombers to a World Series appearance.
