Yankees' Michael Kay: Aaron Judge probably made 'over $100M' from historic season

Less than 24 hours after New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge set a new American League single-season record for home runs at 62, some fans of the club understandably had moved on to wondering where Judge will play home games next spring.

Judge, of course, rejected a seven-year, $213.5 million contract extension offer from the Yankees before Opening Day and is on track to put pen to paper on a much larger deal following the 2022 MLB campaign. On Wednesday, Yankees television play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay, who called Judge's historic blast, appeared on "The Dan Patrick Show" to discuss topics such as the 30-year-old's future payday.

"Well I know it’s going to have an impact on his checkbook for sure," Kay said about Judge's overall season, per Michael Lingard of iHeartRadio. "So, he turned down $213M and I would assume, Dan, that he probably made himself over $100M more, so that’s significant. Now, how does that impact signing with the Yankees? I’d say he’s still the odds-on favorite to go back to the Yankees, but I think it opens up a lot of other bidders."

Also on Wednesday, ESPN's Buster Olney became the latest individual to link Judge with a potential move to the New York Mets, but Audacy's Jesse Pantuosco noted that Olney also remarked during an appearance on the ESPN "Get Up" program that he thinks it's "60/40 that (Judge) stays with the Yankees." It was said in late September that multiple MLB insiders believed at that time the four-time All-Star selection will ultimately re-sign with the Bronx Bombers on a deal that could be worth up to $375 million over 10 years.
