Is superagent Scott Boras too actively involved in the MLB-MLBPA negotiations? Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Yankees president Randy Levine accuses Scott Boras of meddling in MLB negotiations

As the MLB and MLB Players Association struggle to come to an agreement to start the season, rumors have spread that superstar agent Scott Boras is pulling strings and manipulating people from both sides for his benefit. And on Thursday, Yankees president Randy Levine called out Boras directly, saying he shouldn't be meddling.

"I happen to like Scott Boras. I’ve done a lot of business with him. He’s very smart," Levine told The Post. "I haven’t talked to him on this matter, but I’m really disappointed because I’m hearing from everywhere — on both sides of this matter — that he is trying to impede this thing."

Boras denied the idea of stirring up ill will between the MLB and MLBPA, telling The Post he is only working in the best interest of his players.

"The players I represent have said two things: ‘Where and when,’" Boras explained. "And it is the players that I represent that determine what their union does. It is their voice, and my only role is consulting them when asked."

This isn't the first time Boras has been accused of causing trouble during these negotiations. On May 27, Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer called Boras out on Twitter.

"Hearing a LOT of rumors about a certain player agent meddling in MLBPA affairs," Bauer, who is not represented by Boras, tweeted. "If true — and at this point, these are only rumors — I have one thing to say… Scott Boras, rep your clients however you want to, but keep your damn personal agenda out of union business."

However, some have come to Boras' defense, including Yankees player representative Zack Britton, who is represented by Boras.

"I talk to Scott every day, and I talk to the union every day," Britton told USA Today. "He has never tried to influence my thoughts with the union. Never. I ask for his advice. He gives it. But he doesn’t interfere with the union business at all."
