UFC files to trademark 'Fight Island'
Dana White is back at it again with the "Fight Island" nonsense.
The UFC president has filed 22 new trademarks for "Fight Island" and "UFC Fight Island," according to Josh Gerben of Gerben law firm.
The filings were made on the intent to use "Fight Island" as the name of a mixed martial arts competition, and for things such as clothing and jewelry, according to Gerben.
White appears determined to make UFC the first sport to return to action amid the coronavirus outbreak, but who knows when that will actually happen?
A UFC tournament is currently scheduled for May 9, but it will not take place at "Fight Island" or Apex Center in Las Vegas. The specific location has yet to be announced.
With coronavirus concerns continuing to grow across the United States — and the world for that matter — it's hard to believe local authorities would allow White to go through with the May 9 event. We shouldn't even expect major sports to be back by then.
