UFC president Dana White won't back down from his stance that his company will be the first major sports organization to return to action amid the coronavirus outbreak. With that being said, White is eyeing a UFC return for somewhere around May 9, according to ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
While UFC's next pay-per-view event in Brazil was scheduled to take place on May 9, White told Okamoto that he's still targeting that date for a return. The event will likely have to take place at a quarantined site.
Some of the potential fights include Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje, Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz and Amanda Nunes vs. Felicia Spencer, according to ESPN, and many of the fighters have publicly agreed to participate.
If UFC returns to action before health officials give the okay, White will likely face plenty of criticism. If he goes through with his supposed "Fight Island," it'll be unlike anything we've ever seen before.
