One UFC Hall of Famer wonders if fighting at middleweight will hinder Conor McGregor in his return.
During season 31 of "The Ultimate Fighter," McGregor told opposing coach Michael Chandler that he was going fight him at 185 pounds. When Chandler verbally agreed, the "Notorious" one told him, 'You'll do what you're told.'
Fast forward to New Year's Day and McGregor announced he'll be fighting Chandler on June 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada. What surprised fans was that McGregor actually claimed the bout will be taking place at middleweight.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping said that Conor McGregor may find his motivation to be shot now that he won't go through the trials and tribulations of cutting down.
"He's gonna make weight, that's a fact but making that weight will not force discipline," Bisping said. "It will not instill the fighter's kind of routine that he needs to follow. You need to be getting up at the crack of dawn and going for a morning run, right? You need to be pushing yourself to the limit in every training session, you need to be working towards a goal throughout an eight, 10-week period. Whatever the time frame is because you're hungry, you've got the date, you've gotta get the weight off, and you're forced to be disciplined, you follow a strict diet, you eat only the correct food."
Bisping believes McGregor should be on the ball with his preparation because he expects Chandler to be on point.
"What is he fighting for? He's fighting for that feeling, but that feeling might not appear, it might not show itself, it might not present itself if he doesn't do the work because you can bet your bottom dollar Michael Chandler is doing the work."
