WWE

Having a premium live event (or pay per view) on Saturday is somewhat new to WWE, but that is apparently over. So, what day will they air?

Growing up, I remember seeing the commercials for WWE pay per views. They ran either $20 or $30 dollars, before prices kept increasing. This was in the mid 1900s and almost every pay per view took place on a Sunday. This is also when the shows would end no later than 11 PM EST because WWE did not have the luxury of going over. WCW once had their pay per view run long and the main event was cut halfway through. An embarrassing moment for WCW, who then aired the entire match for free the next night on Nitro.

Nowadays, most premium live events take place on a Saturday. We are not sure why the change was made, but Saturday worked better. Those WWE shows drag late and children who are watching need to go to bed. The older kids and adults do not have such a problem, outside of work on Monday morning. Holding the show on Saturday gave everyone plenty of time to rejuvenate the following day.

Shows Returning To Sunday

WWE

Well, those Saturday shows seem to be fading away. At the UFC St. Louis post-fight show, Dana White spoke about the packed schedules of WWE and UFC. In the past, it has caused both companies to battle each other for viewers; which, makes no sense since they are all part of the TKO Board. Going forward, big changes are coming. We already have those dates set up right now where Power Slap goes Friday and UFC goes Saturday,” said White. “You’re going to see Friday, Power Slap, Saturday, UFC, and Sunday, WWE. You’ll start seeing that stuff too.”

He did not specify when this would officially happen as several WWE shows are already confirmed for Saturdays with tickets sold. With WWE having more shows outside of the United States, that might not affect the upcoming change. So, is WWE making a mistake with their premium live events exiting Saturday for Sunday?
