NASCAR has four Crown Jewel races that are considered the most prestigious events in the series. The Daytona 500 is it’s premier event and the most prestigious NASCAR race. This is joined by the Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400, and Southern 500. Recently the 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott has named the race he sees as the most meaningful.
For Elliott, it isn’t the Daytona 500 that is the most meaningful, it is the iconic race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Brickyard 400. The same track host the iconic Indy 500, which is considered one of the top-three Crown Jewel races in the world of Motorsports along with the 24 Hours of Daytona race and the F1 Monaco GP.
Elliott has a emotional reason behind the love for the race. It is the first race he remembers his father Bill Elliott winning in NASCAR. Bill Elliott is the most popular driver in the sports history and a former champion, won the event in 2002. Chase Elliott has vague but some unique memories of the event making it a special race.
The one that is more meaningful to me is the Brickyard because I was old enough when my dad won (in 2002) to just very vaguely remember a few little things about it. To be in the photos and whatnot I thought was cool. That one really hits closest to home for me. Elliott said, as reported by On3.com.
The Coco-Cola 600 is another race close to Chase Elliott’s heart
Elliott, while talking bout the same topic pointed it that the labour week race, the Coco-Cola 600 is another favourite event, despite not scoring a single win there. The reason for the approach is the fact that the race title sponsor is one of the primary sponsors of Elliott’s No:9 team and win with them at the vent will be special.
The (Coca-Cola) 600 would be great to win. Being partners with Coca-Cola now would make that even more special. We’ve had a couple of really good opportunities to win that race and didn’t. I would love to check the box on all of them. Any race win is a big deal but certainly those are a little bigger.
Going into the 2024, after a disappointing 2023 season that saw him miss playoff due to a winless run after missing six races due to an injaury, he might be looking to make a mega comeback with crown jewel race win. With the Brickyard 400’s return as NASCAR decided to race in the oval instead of the road course, he will be looking to extend the Elliott family legacy.
