The Robert Covington-Philadelphia 76ers reunion hasn’t gone as well as everybody expected, primarily due to the fact that the veteran wing has been injured for several months.

The last time Covington made an on-court appearance for the Sixers was during their December 30 matchup against the Chicago Bulls.

At the time, Covington picked up fewer than five minutes of playing time. When the Sixers tipped off the new year with a rematch against the Bulls, Covington’s long stretch of absences started on January 2.

As he deals with a bone bruise in his left knee, Covington missed 29 games for the Sixers leading up to Wednesday night’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies. Missing Wednesday’s game marked the 30th in a row for the veteran.

Prior to the matchup, the Sixers released an update on Covington, noting that he is “progressing” with his current rehabilitation program. Barring any setbacks, Covington is expected to begin on-court activities within the next seven to ten days.

As Covington has yet to partake in any on-court activities at this point, he will miss another week of acton. Next week, the Sixers to evaluate him once again to see where he’s at in his recovery, with hopes of figuring out a timeline for a return.

Since making his season debut with the Sixers back in early November, Covington appeared in 26 games, averaging 16 minutes on the floor. During that stretch, the veteran averaged five points while shooting 35 percent from three. He also produced three rebounds per game and snatched 1.3 steals per outing.
