Bucks' Bobby Portis declines $3.8 million player option, will become free agent
Bobby Portis is going to test free agency for the second consecutive year.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the 26-year-old declined his $3.8 million player option with the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2021-22 season on Saturday.
Wojnarowski adds that the most the Bucks can offer Portis is the $5.9 million exception.
Milwaukee signed Portis to a two-year, $7.4 million deal in November. Playing primarily off the bench last season, the Arkansas product averaged 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 52.3% from the field and 47.1% from deep.
Portis' 7.1 rebounds per game ranked second on the Bucks behind star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who averaged 11.
Given his ability to score and rebound, the 2021 NBA champion could be one of the most sought-after bench players this summer. It's unclear what kind of contract he's looking for.
