Cavaliers big man Jarrett Allen out indefinitely with fractured finger

It was reported during the first half of the Cleveland Cavaliers' 104-96 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday that Cavs All-Star center Jarrett Allen had suffered a left thigh contusion and would miss the remainder of the contest. It appears that the 23-year-old also picked up a more serious injury along the way.

Allen finished the win with six points, two rebounds and two blocks in 10 minutes. Entering Sunday, he was averaging career-highs in points (16.3) and rebounds per game (10.9), while posting a career-best 67.7% field goal percentage in 55 contests.

Though Cleveland has exceeded preseason expectations this year and is currently sixth in the Eastern Conference standings at 37-27, they have lost numerous key players to injuries. In the backcourt, Collin Sexton was lost for the year due to a torn left meniscus, Ricky Rubio suffered a season-ending torn ACL before being traded to the Indiana Pacers and Caris LeVert has missed the last six games, while in the frontcourt, Lauri Markkanen has missed 20 contests and rookie sensation Evan Mobley has missed time as well.

Allen is in his first full season with the Cavaliers, after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets in January 2021 in a massive four-team deal that also included the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers. James Harden was sent from the Rockets to Nets in the blockbuster.
