The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired five veteran players this past offseason.

Two of them, Max Strus and Georges Niang, have been a substantial part of the team’s rotation so far, and are the only two Cavaliers to play in every game this season.

Two others, big men Tristan Thompson and Damian Jones, have played a combined 55 games off the bench for the Wine and Gold so far this season.

However, the fifth player has played in two games and less than 15 combined minutes for the Wine and Gold.

Point guard Ty Jerome, whom Cleveland signed to a two-year contract, has been dealing with a right ankle injury since late October. This has caused the 26-year-old to miss the Cavaliers’ last 40 games.

On Thursday, the team released an update on the guard’s status, which says that Jerome “underwent successful arthroscopic surgery” for a right ankle impingement this past Tuesday. It also says that he will be “out indefinitely,” and that the team will provide appropriate updates on his status.

Jerome averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 assists per game off the bench in the Wine and Gold’s first two games this season. The 2019 first-round pick averaged 7.0 points and 2.6 assists in his previous four seasons, playing for the Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Golden State Warriors.

For the Cavaliers, the point guard spot has unfortunately dealt with a fair share of adversity so far this season.

In addition to Jerome’s injury, 2022 NBA All-Star Darius Garland has been sidelined with a fractured jaw for over a month. Additionally, Ricky Rubio was absent from the team for the entire season before agreeing to a contract buyout and eventually retiring from the NBA.
