Saquon Barkley addresses shift in 'mindset' after Eagles' Super Bowl triumph

One couldn't blame running back Saquon Barkley and other Philadelphia Eagles players if they spent the organized team activities portion of the offseason program simply going through the motions coming off their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

During an appearance on Monday's edition of NFL Network's "The Insiders" program, Barkley suggested the team has successfully moved on from what it achieved this past February.

"The beauty of it is you have an opportunity to do it again," Barkley explained, as shared by Kevin Patra of the NFL's website. "That's what the mindset kind of shifts to is learn from it, and even though you had a great year, there's so many plays and so many things I can continue to improve on. You've got to be obsessed with the little details and locking into taking your game to another level."

It's hard to imagine Barkley could improve upon his first campaign with the Eagles. The StatMuse website shows that he led the league with 2,283 yards from scrimmage for the 2024 regular season en route to earning Offensive Player of the Year Award honors. Back in March, he received a two-year contract extension reportedly worth $41.2M that included $36M guaranteed with $15M more in incentives.

That said, Bob Brookover of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com recently noted that the Eagles lost three defensive starters "and seven of the team’s top 16 players in terms of defensive snaps" during the offseason. Additionally, Kellen Moore exited his role as Philadelphia offensive coordinator to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Nevertheless, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Eagles as the betting favorites at +650 odds to win Super Bowl LX as of Tuesday morning. Considering Barkley is just 28 years old and in his prime, his best days with the Eagles may still be ahead of him.

"When it gets to this point, it might only move the needle a little bit, but any time you can move the needle, it's going to help you," Barkley added during his comments. "That's what the mindset is, not only for myself but for our team, is, yes, we did it, we reached the top of Mount Everest, but now we all got to go back down and work our way back up."

Multiple stories have detailed how Barkley became a needed leader for an Eagles team that lost center Jason Kelce and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox to retirement following the 2023 season. While training-camp practices won't begin until later this summer, it sounds like Barkley is already doing everything possible to ensure the 2025 Eagles won't suffer from any so-called "Super Bowl hangover."
