Celtics plan for Malcolm Brogdon to come off bench?

After spending the first two seasons of his NBA career as a part-time starter with the Milwaukee Bucks, Malcolm Brogdon has started all 210 regular-season games he's played in over the last four campaigns for the Bucks and Indiana Pacers. The recent Boston Celtics acquisition may be asked to play a different role on his new club in the fall.

The Celtics landed Brogdon in exchange for a package of players and a 2023 first-round draft pick at the start of July. The 2016-2017 Rookie of the Year finished was limited to a career-low 36 games last season due to an Achilles injury, but still averaged 19.1 points, 5.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds per contest, while posting a .448/.312/.856 shooting line.

With reigning Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart already in Boston's backcourt, Brogdon has high expectations for the defensive prowess on his new squad.

The Celtics came up two wins short of winning their 18th NBA title in June and could have most, if not all of their core back for the 2022-2023 campaign, with a shallow list of free agents on the market. In addition to Brogdon, Boston also officially added Danilo Gallinari on a two-year, $13.3 million deal on Sunday.
