Championship Bulls to go on tour in Australia
Former Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen, Luc Longley and Horace Grant announced they will be embarking on the “No Bull Tour,” a three-city tour in Australia in which they will discuss ESPN's "The Last Dance" documentary and share stories of the team's championship run of the 1990s.
Grant and Longley each won three titles with the Bulls. Pippen won six championships with the team.
“I speak my mind, and it’s going to be a no [expletive] tour,” Grant said at Australia's National Basketball League "Andrew Gaze MVP and Awards Night." "A lot of people really want to ask us questions about…that [expletive] documentary. Come out, get the tickets, and you’ll hear a lot.”
"The Last Dance" was a 10-part documentary about the Bulls' last championship season, in 1997-98. It also covered their entire championship run in the 1990s. It was released in July 2020 amid the initial phase of the COVID-19 quarantine.
Although "The Last Dance" received rave reviews, some former players were critical of how they were portrayed and that the film focused on the team’s star and leader, Michael Jordan.
Pippen was probably the most vocal of the former Bulls players who had an issue with the documentary. He released a memoir back in 2021 in which he criticized Jordan.
In an excerpt from the memoir, obtained by GQ, Pippen wrote, “I was nothing more than a prop. His ‘best teammate of all time,’ he called me. He couldn’t have been more condescending if he tried…he referred to us back then as his 'supporting cast.' From one season to the next, we received little or no credit whenever we won but the bulk of the criticism when we lost.”
Grant was another critic of the documentary, calling 90% of it “BS” in an ESPN Radio interview.
In the documentary, Jordan accused Grant of leaking team information to the media and being the direct source for “The Jordan Rules,” a best-selling book about the 1990-91 Bulls. In the same interview, Grant disputed this and implied that Jordan was a liar and a "snitch."
Longley was not featured in "The Last Dance."
The "No Bull Tour," in partnership with the NBL, begins Friday.
