Clippers suspend Blake Griffin four games

A difficult season for Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin just got a little worse. The Clippers announced on Tuesday that team is suspending Griffin four games when he returns from injury.

The suspension stems from an incident that occurred in Toronto on Jan. 23, when Griffin broke his hand punching a member of Clippers' equipment staff. The broken hand Griffin suffered in the altercation required surgery to repair, and the power forward is now expected to miss another four to six weeks of game action.

Although the Clippers have been playing surprisingly well in Griffin's absence, the incident was an embarrassment for all parties involved. Essentially, Griffin assaulted a fellow co-worker and injured himself in the process, not only hurting the man he punched and himself, but also the team.

Griffin has since apologized to the team and public for his actions, but the Clippers are still not happy about the fiasco to say the least. In some ways, a four-game suspension feels a little bit light for what Griffin did.

The Clippers currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference, with a record of 35-17, and while the rumor mill has speculated L.A. may look to trade the superstar power forward, particularly with the team's success without him, don't expect Griffin to be moved. He's still an elite player in the NBA, and the suspension should be a wake-up call to the All-Star forward.
