The 2023-24 season continues to get worse for the Detroit Pistons after they set another infamous record in their 125-107 defeat to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. After getting their 67th loss of the season, the Detroit Pistons have officially clinched their worst win-loss record since they went 16-66 in 1979-80.

The Detroit Pistons lost again because of their poor defense and turnover problems. They couldn’t keep DeMar DeRozan in check, who went off for 39 points on 14-of-22 shooting and was accompanied by his co-star Nikola Vucevic, who had 27 points and 11 rebounds on 12-of-21 shooting.

Jalen Duren and Marcus Sasser had 20 points apiece in the losing effort for Detroit, who were without Cade Cunningham for the fourth consecutive game due to a knee injury. The team also coughed up the ball 20 times, leading to 36 points off turnovers for the Chicago Bulls.

“There is a lot you can learn at this time of year. I earned a lot of money playing down the stretch and playing the right way. I want to see integrity and character from a basketball perspective from our guys,” said head coach Monty Williams.

The Detroit Pistons’ forgettable 2023-24 campaign

Earlier this season, the Detroit Pistons set the record for having the longest single-season losing streak with 28 games, and they also have the most players used on the roster with 31 players.

At one point last month, Detroit Pistons GM Troy Weaver got into it with a heckling fan in the stands, as the season-ticket holder kept telling Weaver that he was “terrible at his job” and should leave his post.

Because of what happened this season, there were murmurs about head coach Monty Williams heading towards a buyout of his mammoth six-year, $78.5 million contract that he got last summer, but sources say that he isn’t interested, at least for now.

With a 13-67 record, Detroit has the worst record in the NBA, although the bright side is that they’ll likely have a high lottery pick in this summer’s NBA Draft to try and turn their fortunes around soon.
