The Golden State Warriors just got versatile guard Gary Payton II back from injury, but he has now been sidelined again with a separate injury. It was a calf issue that Payton had just returned from, but a hamstring injury forced him to leave Tuesday night's game, and it has since been revealed by Shams Charania of The Athletic that Payton will miss several weeks with this injury.
This is disappointing news for the Warriors, but even more disappointing for Payton himself. Injuries have been an issue for Payton the last two seasons, and having worked so hard to rehab his calf, Payton will now have to work his way back from this hamstring injury.
The Warriors have always been good when Payton is on the floor, as his versatility on both ends allows them to do a lot of different things. Willing to take on the other teams toughest assignment, Payton is a lock down defender who can also play multiple positions on offense.
Because of his athleticism, Payton is a very unique offensive weapon. While his shot is still coming along, Payton is a lob threat out of the dunker spot, even at just 6'2". This gives the Warriors a lot of flexibility on both ends when Payton is healthy and available, which unfortunately will not be the case for the next several weeks.
