Dwyane Wade producing 'Redeem Team' documentary on 2008 gold-medal winning USA Basketball team

As ESPN's "The Last Dance" docuseries about the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls generates headlines seemingly every day with sports on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade has confirmed he's working on a different film project.

As mentioned by Melissa Rohlin of Sports Illustrated on Tuesday, Wade told "The Platform Basketball Podcast" that he's producing a documentary about the 2008 "Redeem Team" USA Basketball squad that won the gold medal at that year's Summer Olympics.

"For me, that was a big year, 2008. I had to kind of redeem myself because everybody thought I was done," D-Wade said on the podcast.

While the 1992 USA "Dream Team" may be the greatest basketball squad ever assembled, the state of the nation's program in international competitions nearly fell off a cliff in the early 2000s. Lithuania was a missed three-pointer away from pulling off a shocking upset over the Americans in the semifinals of the 2000 Olympics tournament:

Team USA suffered three defeats at the 2004 Games before settling for bronze.

In 2008, D-Wade, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, and others righted the USA ship in Beijing. The Red-White-and-Blue won every game, including the gold-medal fixture versus Spain.
