The NBA has a rich history of heated rivalries: Magic vs. Bird, Jordan vs. Isaiah, Kobe vs. Shaq. That tradition of petty beef was most recently honored by Aaron Gordon, who took umbrage with Dwyane Wade giving him a "9" instead of a "10" at the most recent NBA Slam Dunk Contest, costing him the title.
Gordon even released a diss track titled "9 OUT OF 10," in which he called Wade out.
However, it doesn't appear that this will go down as one of the great beefs in NBA history. Gordon said that he and Wade have already aired out their differences and have no issue with each other.
To be fair, the fight was always pretty one-sided, as Wade admitted that the scoring was a mistake and even said that the 24-year-old should trademark 9/10 to make some money.
He should trademark 9/10. Make some money off of it. That’s free advice that I won’t charge him for it. (You know since I costed him a Mill) That @DWadeCellars looked https://t.co/Hzt9RnKSwy— DWade (@DwyaneWade) April 27, 2020
Gordon responded on "SportsCenter," confirming that any animosity between the two was nonexistent at that point, if it ever really existed at all.
"I hear that and I kinda just am like, I think that was a response to the diss track without going back into the studio," Gordon said. "So I take it with a little pinch of salt. But it's really cool, man. Me and D-Wade, we talked a little bit about it — he told me he liked the song; I told him I liked his wine. So everything's good."
Gordon said the song helped him process his emotions about the entire experience and allowed him to please his vocal fans.
"People would ask me for it, so I just gave the people what they wanted, just my perspective," he said. "I had to talk a lot about my opinion and my perspective on the dunk contest, so I thought this was a fun, creative, expressive, uplifting way to voice my opinion and tell the world what I was going through and what I was seeing on that day."
While this won't go down as one of the great beefs in NBA history, we can always appreciate Gordon's willingness to go after a living legend. That takes guts.
