DeAndre Jordan is officially no longer with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Twitter thinks that they know what exactly the final straw was.

The Lakers released the former All-NBA center Jordan on Monday with a plan to use his roster spot to sign veteran guard DJ Augustin, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. The move comes one day after the Lakers got blown out at home by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Jordan’s release led to everybody joking that his horrific pass in the third quarter against the Pelicans was what led to his release. Attempting to lead the fast break after getting the rebound, Jordan threw an outlet to Wayne Ellington that instead sailed away like a Styx song and landed in the crowd.

Jordan was waived less than 24 hours later, and social media did not think it was a coincidence.

Granted, the move was a long time coming as Jordan was largely useless for the Lakers all year. Sunday’s appearance was just his fifth since December, and Jordan averaged just 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game overall. He also appeared to clash with Lakers coach Frank Vogel.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN adds that the Philadelphia 76ers, who need a backup center, will aggressively pursue Jordan after his Lakers release. Hopefully Jordan will be less of a meme there if he does land in Philly.
