Amir Coffey, a backup forward for the Los Angeles Clippers who played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in college, was arrested early Sunday morning in Hollywood, California for allegedly carrying a concealed gun.

According to police reports obtained by numerous media outlets, Coffey was a passenger in a vehicle in which the driver was pulled over for speeding around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. TMZ reports the vehicle was searched after officers smelled marijuana and that another passenger was cited for marijuana possession.

"We're aware of a legal situation involving Amir Coffey and are looking into it," the Clippers said in a statement Monday.

Jail records show Coffey was booked into jail at 5:05 a.m. PT Sunday and released after posting $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Court on Aug. 24.

Coffey, 26, has averaged 5.5 points per game in four seasons with the Clippers. He starred at the University of Minnesota from 2016 to 2019 and was an All-Big Ten Third Team selection as a junior.

Before playing for the Gophers, Coffey was an All-State player at Hopkins High School and was named Mr. Basketball in Minnesota as a senior in 2016.
